The power of friends

four things from my world..

Hey all 👋

Four things from my world…

1. Proximity to examples, not just content. Every Friday at 6AM, I get together with 4 of my best friends at a bagel shop. We eat, pray, catch up and share about what’s actually going on in our lives. This coming week, 4 of us and our spouses (one of my friends is single - holler if you know an eligible lady in NJ!) are getting together as a group to talk about our marriages and families.

We’ll talk about what’s working well, what we could use help with, and how we can be praying for each other. I talked about this on the podcast I interviewed on the other week, but this is becoming one of the most important pieces of advice I can give to someone.

No matter the domain (marriage, business, etc.), there is no substitute for being in close relationship with people you want to be like, and who make you want to be better.

Turns out the cliches “You become the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with” and “More is caught than taught” are very real.

Life is rich when you have strong relationships. Find your people. And even when things are busy, fight to be around them as much as you can.

2. Buckle Up: After 7+ years of research at MIT, someone invented a way to communicate with your thoughts (well, more accurately your intention to speak). It’ll take a while before this gets out to the masses, but I did not expect this kind of technology to come this quickly.

A few reactions:

  • Humans can’t help but create. It’s almost as if we were created in the image of a God who created everything 😉

  • The pace of technological advancement is accelerating. Crazy that we’ve gone from the first TV to AI and near-telepathic communication in just 100 years.

  • What’s important? Massive leaps in tech always cause me to ask the deep questions: What really matters? Why am I here? Where is all of this headed? For what it’s worth, I think this is where Christianity provides answers I find drastically more compelling than any other worldview, from atheism to agnosticism to eastern religions.

3. Favorite Tool for Forms: If you use Forms for anything and want an alternative to Google Forms that looks way better, I suggest giving Youform a try. They have an unlimited forms and unlimited responses plan for free. I use it a ton with their premium features, and it's probably some of the best $29/month that I spend. Link here.

Until next time,

Kieran
