I got sued šŸ’¼

three things from my world..

Hey all,

Hope your year is off to a great start. Three things from my world..

1. I got sued: Back in 2019, I was in a car accident. It was September 20th and I was driving home from work just after getting the news that Dana and I had officially become licensed foster parents in NJ.

I’ll spare you all the details, but here’s the gist:

  • I’m rolling up to a red light behind another car

  • Light turns green, we all start driving again

  • Pedestrian walked into the middle of the street when we had a green light (I didn’t see the pedestrian)

  • Car in front of me stops suddenly, I rear end them

This past week, the case went to trial for 4 days.

The other party was suing me for pain and suffering, alleging that they have a permanent injury due to the accident. My car insurance company disagreed.

Long story short, the jury decided the evidence did not support their claim and my side ā€œwonā€ the case.

While in many ways, it felt like a complete waste of time for me to be there for 4 days, I gained a greater appreciation for (and understanding of) our justice system.

Grateful that’s behind me!

I shared a slightly more detailed/fun version of the above here.

2. Weekly rhythm: My close group of friends include a software engineer, 2 teachers, a UPS driver, an FBI agent and me. We meet every Friday morning at 6AM at a mediocre bagel shop here in NJ (our group chat is literally called "mediocre bagel bros").

Our Friday breakfasts aren’t anything crazy but it's one of the most important rhythms in my life. For the first 30 minutes, we catch up and laugh a lot. For the next 30, we go around the table sharing:

  • updates from the previous week

  • how our heart is actually doing

  • how the others can support and pray for us

The bagels are mediocre, but the bros are not. My advice to you?

Find 2-3 friends and get together weekly.

Tell the truth about how you're actually doing.

Pray for each other while you’re there and throughout the week.

Do it for a year and watch what happens.

There’s something magical about the week. It’s the only major time measurement we use that isn’t dictated by astronomical, solar, or lunar cycles.

From a Christian perspective, it’s tied to who we are as people created in the image of God, who wove the 7-day week and the rhythm of work and rest into the fabric of the universe.

Fun fact: The French revolutionary government moved to a 10-day week from 1793 to 1805, and it resulted in widespread exhaustion, confusion, and resistance. People demanded going back to a 7-day week.

3. Looking for office space: Most of you aren’t in New Jersey, but as Michael Scott once said, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

A few friends and I have been looking for office space to share in the Highland Park, Piscataway, or New Brunswick area. Looking for 500-1000 square feet (ideally within a few minute drive of a pickleball court šŸ˜‰).

If you happen to know anyone who might have space or know someone who does, let me know!

Stay warm,

Kieran

P.S. Judah trying to do a cartwheel is probably one of the cutest things in the world..

P.P.S. Here are a few things I’m working on - let me know if I can help.
